EPA expands clean-up site, extends comment period

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has extended the public comment period for the Omaha, Neb., superfund site's final proposed plan to Dec. 31 and will add another 10,000 homes in the area to its ongoing lead clean-up efforts.

The plan describes EPA's approach for addressing lead-contaminated soil at residential properties in eastern Omaha surrounding a former Asarco Inc. lead smelter and a long-defunct automotive battery recycling facility.....
