Rexam shutting Oklahoma City can plant, laying off 80 workers

Rexam Plc will make further reductions in its 12-ounce beverage can manufacturing to address overcapacity in the North American market.
By early 2009, the London-based company will close its Oklahoma City, Okla., plant, which makes about 1.2 billion 12-ounce cans annually, resulting in about 80 layoffs.
Rexam also will reduce end-manufacturing capacity and there will be a number of associated staff reductions across its North American beverage can organization, the company said, but added that there will be no impact on its ability to meet current customer requirements as supplies will continue from other U.S. plants.....
