Nucor-Yamato sets Jan. wide-flange beam hike

Nucor-Yamato Steel Co. has initiated a cautious attempt to reverse a recent slide in wide-flange beam prices with a hike that reflects half of an increase in its scrap surcharge.

The Blytheville, Ark.-based producer, which zeroed out its surcharge for December, told customers it is implementing a $70-per-ton charge for January. However, it will reduce its base price by $35 per ton, "leaving a net increase for the transaction price of $35/ton ($1.75 per hundredweight) for all shipments," the company said.....
