Rusal to cut Jamaica alumina output

United Co. Rusal said it will curtail about 420,000 tonnes per year of alumina production at its West Indies Alumina Co. (Windalco) unit in Jamaica due to high production costs and declining commodity prices.
The Moscow-based company said that it plans on cutting around 4 percent of aluminum production and 9 percent of alumina production globally, which equates to 180,000 tonnes a year of aluminum and 970,000 tonnes of alumina.
Rusal said that about 43 percent of the alumina cuts will come at Windalco, with the remaining 550,000 tonnes being cut in Sardinia, Italy. ....
