Power authority approves contract for Alcoa smelters

A power supply contract has been approved for Alcoa Inc.'s Massena, N.Y., operations by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) board of trustees.

The terms of the contract stipulate that NYPA will provide 478 megawatts of low-cost hydropower to the company's operations in Massena for 30 years following the expiration of Alcoa's current power contract in 2013. It has....
