Copper scrap dead as mart preps for holiday shutdown

Maybe 2009 will be better. That was the sentiment among copper scrap industry players as many recyclers and brass ingot makers started shutting down for the last two weeks of the year, market sources said.
Prices were largely stable this past week, but very little business is being conducted due to the massive economic slowdown. "I did a little bit to go out the first week of January, but I suspect that almost everyone is shutting down the last two weeks of the year," one U.S.-based brass ingot maker said Friday. "I don't think I bought a truckload this week. It's pitiful out there."....
