Kemet cuts 1,500 jobs on weak sales

Kemet Corp., an electrical parts manufacturer and tantalum processor, said it will eliminate about 1,500 manufacturing jobs representing about 14 percent of its work force. The layoffs will begin immediately and be completed by mid-January.

The Greenville, S.C.-based company expects that its net sales, excluding the wet tantalum assets which were sold in September 2008, will decline between 14 and 17 percent in the fiscal third quarter ending Dec. 31, compared with the second fiscal quarter ended Sept. 30.....
