Industry groups welcome new USTR

Major metals and manufacturing trade associations greeted the nomination by President-elect Barack Obama of former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk to U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) with cautious optimism.
The position is expected to prove pivotal over the coming months as the new administration reviews trade policies, particularly in the context of China.
While mayor of Dallas in 2000, Kirk was among a group of political leaders who called for permanently normalizing trade relations with China, saying that "you're either a part of the global economic community or you're going to be left out," according to a New York Times article.....
