TK puts off response on mill’s FTZ status

The steel industry will have to wait until the New Year to find out how ThyssenKrupp Steel & Stainless USA LLC will respond to competitors who are attempting to thwart the company's request for foreign trade zone (FTZ) status for its new mill in Calvert, Ala.
Five organizations filed comments this month with the U.S. Commerce Department's FTZ Board opposing ThyssenKrupp's October request for special status at the mill, which is currently under construction. The company said that FTZ status would create savings and help improve the plant's international competitiveness, enabling it to continue to employ the 2,500 people it expects to work there when production begins late next year (AMM, Dec. 19).....
