Aluminum firms fear fallout from Guinea coup

Fears are mounting that a military coup attempt in Guinea—which has two-thirds of the world's bauxite reserves—may cause disruption to mining in the troubled West African country, particularly the ability to transport raw materials and finished products.
Following the death of President Lansana Conte, 74, Monday night, renegade soldiers moved to seize power, taking control of state radio and television and naming a junior army officer, Capt. Moussa Dadis Camara, president of a ruling council set up to replace government and other bodies.
But government leaders have insisted that they are still in power and have called for help from the international community. The African Union was planning to send a regional delegation to Guinea to try to convince the army to allow a return to constitutional rule. ....
