Steel lull to slow, not halt, growth in Galvalume

Despite a current worldwide steel slump that's tempering some earlier forecasts for 55-percent aluminum-zinc alloy-coated sheet, along with the emergence of unlicensed production in China, the licensor of "Galvalume" technology doesn't expect these headwinds to cause a significant slowdown in the pace of its market growth.

Earlier this year Arif Humayun, president of BIEC International Inc., told members of the Zinc Aluminum Coaters Association (ZAC) that the 10-percent compound annual growth rate seen for Galvalume since 2000 would accelerate to levels approaching 12 percent in the remaining years of this decade, achieving annual global production of 14 million tons. Annualized global output reached 10 million tons in 2007-08.....
