Vancouver port threat grows as truckers opt for strike vote

Truckers who haul freight to the Port of Vancouver, British Columbia, last week voted unanimously to support their union bargaining committee and hold a strike vote next month in efforts to negotiate new contracts.
More than 300 truckers, members of the Vancouver Container Truck Association/Canadian Auto Workers union Local 2006, met to discuss "the lack of progress in reaching a new contract," the union said in a statement. The existing collective bargaining agreements expire Wednesday.
The auto workers' contract talks are separate from those being held between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the British Columbia Maritime Employers' Association, which operates various ports in the province, including Vancouver.....
