Signals mixed as smelters’ aluminum scrap prices flat

Smelter-grade aluminum scrap prices remain dismal, but some market participants are seeing faint signs of hope.

Scrapyards expecting a midwinter improvement in aluminum might have gained some tactical leeway from steel's mild improvement.

Gains in ferrous scrap volumes and prices have provided dealers with badly needed cash flow. This has muted the desperation to find prompt outlets for nonferrous scrap, one source suggested. Delaying sales of items that might soon show....
