If you're stuck on a bridge during an earthquake, you better hope its a nickel-titanium alloy bridge. According to an experiment at the University of Nevada, Reno, bridges reinforced with an "elastic" nickel-titanium alloy known as nitinol can withstand 10 seconds of a magnitude 8 quake on the Richter Scale, unlike regular bridges, which would emerge from the tremors as a pile of rubble.
