Voting by UAW locals leaves fate of Chrysler pact in doubt

Votes at several of the larger United Auto Workers union locals against a tentative contract with Chrysler LLC have raised a strong possibility that a ratification effort may be defeated, analysts said.

At least six UAW locals representing more than 11,000 of Chrysler's almost 50,000 hourly workers have rejected the contract negotiated earlier this month (AMM, Oct. 12), Detroit newspapers said. Eight smaller locals representing almost 6,500 workers have approved the contract,....
