Bulk scrap cargo exporters feel heat of cheaper container rates

The growth in containerized exports of ferrous scrap has undermined the efforts of major scrap exporters to pass along record-high bulk freight rates to their offshore customers, Jeremy Sutcliffe, chief executive officer of Sims Group Ltd., said.
Speaking at the Bureau of International Recycling fall conference in Warsaw, Sutcliffe said that cheap container rates have resulted in a major increase of shipments of containerized scrap in recent months at the same time that bulk freight rates have been rising.....
