Waste Management to install Tomra recycling centers in US

Tomra Systems ASA, Asker, Norway, said Thursday that 15 of its automated recycling centers will be installed in the United States under a cooperative program with Waste Management Inc., the Houston-based waste handler.
The facilities, launched at supermarket sites in Britain, accept rigid containers of metal, glass and plastic originally used to hold beverages, food or toiletries. The containers, which go into a single intake without any separation beforehand, are automatically sorted by material, then compressed, granulated or crushed before being deposited into storage containers.....
