A Georgia MySpace for nabbing metal thieves

A Macon, Ga.-based coalition formed to combat metals theft and receipt of stolen property says it has developed a quick-response communications strategy that should be applicable statewide using social networking software.

"The most effective means of reducing metal theft crimes is simply the sharing of information among all involved and affected by metal theft crimes," the coalition, called the Macon-Middle Georgia Metal Theft Committee, said in a statement.

"We want all the recyclers to participate. It doesn't matter if they're ISRI members or not," said Chip Koplin, co-owner of Macon Iron & Paper Stock Inc., referring to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, which operates its own metals theft alert system.....
