Unhealthy hospital ship sold illegally, BAN charges

The sale of a World War II hospital ship was likely illegal and the vessel could end up at a shipbreaking yard in India or Bangladesh, the Basel Action Network (BAN) said Tuesday.

The M/V Sanctuary, built as a U.S. Navy hospital ship in 1944 and now moored at the North Locust Point Marine Terminal in Baltimore Harbor, was auctioned off Aug. 21, the Seattle, Wash.-based environmental group said. The ship was sold to Nicholas Couchell of Potomac Navigation Inc.....
