ISRI challenges railroads to buy more cars to carry scrap

The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) says it will work with rail shippers and rail shipping coalitions to encourage the nation's railroads to buy more freight cars that carry scrap metals.
The Washington-based scrap industry organization said it has adopted a new policy statement addressing the chronic challenges the scrap recycling industry faces with rail service and capacity. The policy statement is available at www.isri.org/rail.
In addition to supporting federal legislation encouraging railroads to invest in new freight cars, ISRI said it wants the railroads to improve service and rail car availability to scrap processors and their consumers. The rail carriers also should increase the amount of new track and infrastructure funding to ensure future growth, ISRI said.....
