Fall in Asian buys sinks copper, brass scrap exports

Softer sales to Asian smelters and scrap importers helped push down U.S. exporters' shipments of copper and brass scrap by 12.2 percent in September.
Exports sagged to 83,319 short tons in September, off from the year-to-date high of 94,895 tons sent overseas in August, according to the latest U.S. Commerce Department figures. Despite the decline, exports of the red metal scrap totaled 737,308 tons in the first nine months, up 16.1 percent from 635,314 tons in the same nine-month span last year and 27 percent higher than the 537,580 tons exported in the 2004 period.....
