Xstrata begins study of Altonorte moly expansion project

Xstrata Plc's North Chile division has launched a feasibility study into doubling molybdenum production at its Altonorte metallurgical facility in La Negra, Chile, the company said Monday.

The $40-million expansion, first disclosed this summer (AMM, Aug. 22), would involve the refurbishment of a second molybdenum roaster at Altonorte and the construction of a Brenda molybdenum leaching plant.
