Asian buyers fail to stem stainless scrap export dip

Despite stronger sales to specialty steelmakers in several Asian countries, U.S. exports of stainless steel scrap dipped slightly in September for the third consecutive month but still remained well ahead of the pace of the past two years.
Shipments of 18-8 scrap slipped to 68,854 tonnes, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Commerce Department, down less than 0.5 percent from 69,180 tonnes in August. Exports in the first nine months of the year totaled 636,633 tonnes, up 66.3 percent from 382,782 tonnes in the same period last year and 57.9 percent higher than 403,270 tonnes in the first nine months of 2005.....
