Shredded aluminum fetches 42 cents/lb. in military auction

A year's worth of shredded aluminum scrap from discarded aircraft and vehicle parts was valued at 42 cents a pound in a military auction Tuesday, with a high bid of $757,000.

The material will be from Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. The per-pound value includes a 10-percent surcharge that winning bidders must pay to Government Liquidation LLC, Scottsdale, Ariz., a Defense Department contractor that runs the online auction platform.....
