North American aluminum shipments, inventories off

North American aluminum demand in September fell 4.5 percent from the previous month and is off 3.8 percent for the year to date, according to the latest data from the Aluminum Association.
Demand, measured as shipments by domestic producers plus imports, was also off 4.5 percent from September 2006, the Washington-based trade group said.
Demand of 2.1 billion pounds in September was down from demand of 2.2 billion pounds in both August 2007 and September 2006.....
