US says High Court shouldn’t hear Teck suit appeal

The U.S. Solicitor General said the U.S. Supreme Court should not hear an appeal of an lawsuit against Teck Cominco Ltd. for polluting the Columbia River with waste from its smelter in Trail, British Columbia, according to a brief issued to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Thursday.
The Court of Appeals had previously ruled that Teck Cominco is subject to the U.S. Superfund law, which would require it to help pay for the clean-up of Lake Roosevelt, a 130-square-mile reservoir created by the impoundment of the upper Columbia River by the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington.....
