Stainless surcharge change seen minimal; centers mixed on direction

Flat-rolled stainless steel users are unlikely to see much change in January surcharges, with service center managers estimating a mere few cents difference vs. December, although views are mixed on whether those few cents would be a shift up or down.
The January surcharges likely will be lower, one Midwest service center manager said, based on nickel and chrome price movements and the alloying metals' average price for November. The November prices are used, in part, to calculate the January surcharge. However, another Midwest service center manager said he suspects the surcharges will be a few cents higher because although nickel's price has come down, chrome has increased.....
