Midwest tubing mills implement $40-a-ton hike

Producers of structural steel tubing are trying once again to boost prices following a failed attempt earlier this year, buyers on the West Coast said.
Major Midwest tubing producers told customers Friday that they would raise prices $40 a ton, effective that afternoon.
Among the producers moving to boost prices are Atlas Tube Inc., Harrow, Ontario; Leavitt Tube Co., Chicago; Bull Moose Tube Co., Chesterfield, Mo.; and Independence Tube Corp., Chicago, sources said. No local mills were reported boosting prices, but moves in the region are often initiated by Midwestern tubers and then followed by West Coast producers.....
