HudBay may close Manitoba smelter by 2015

HudBay Minerals Inc.'s aging copper smelter in northern Manitoba might be closed within seven years if it cannot be upgraded to meet federal emissions standards.
The 80-year-old plant in the town of Flin Flon produces between 80,000 and 90,000 tonnes of copper per year. Canadian federal rules will require it to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by about 15 percent to 187,000 tonnes next year and by a further 85 percent by 2015.....
