Airbus to build assembly line in Ala. if it wins Air Force pact

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus SAS has confirmed that it is mulling plans to build an assembly plant in Mobile, Ala., as it looks to offset the effects of the surging euro against the U.S. dollar.
Airbus owns an engineering facility in Mobile but would build an assembly line if it wins a multibillion-dollar contract to supply an air-to-air refueling plane to the U.S. Air Force.
An Airbus spokesman said that the Mobile site could be expanded to include final assembly of other freight aircraft. "It's a possibility that we're looking at, but it's contingent on us securing the tanker contract," he said. "There has been some financial pressures caused by the dollar-euro exchange rate, and one way to overcome that challenge is to relocate to additional dollar zones."....
