Consolidation, internationalization changing nature of logistics exec

Consolidation among major metals producers and the emergence of international players has changed shipping and logistics patterns, according to W. Pat Wallace, senior vice president of Pittsburgh Logistics Systems Inc.

The optimization and accompanying rationalization of manufacturing has resulted in the transshipping of many more semi-finished products between plants, often to take advantage of synergies and efficiencies, Wallace said.
