Xstrata to fast-track copper mine projects via Bechtel collaboration

Xstrata Plc's pipeline of copper projects could be fast-tracked following a deal with engineering and construction company Bechtel Corp., San Francisco.
The world's fourth-largest copper producer plans to double its output of the red metal over the next five years by boosting production at its current operations and developing new projects, according to Charlie Sartain, chief executive officer of Xstrata Copper.
The collaboration with Bechtel will see the design of "a replicable copper concentrator and other facilities that could be applied to Xstrata Copper's individual projects," the Zug, Switzerland-based metals producer said. "This will enable the early ordering of long-lead-time items and reduce the engineering time and costs on individual projects. It will also provide construction efficiencies."....
