Strong demand from steelmakers and sparse supplies have pushed spot prices for high-carbon ferromanganese higher in recent weeks.

High-carbon material in the United States has reached $1,800 to $1,850 a tonne on a spot basis, up from $1,650 to $1,750 previously and more than double its spot price of $800 a tonne a year ago. Spot medium-carbon ferromanganese is now between $1.55 and $1.65 a pound, up from $1.45 to $1.55 previously and 68 to 72 cents a year earlier.....
