‘Greasy scrap’ sparks federal raid of Jupiter

A team of federal investigators descended on Jupiter Aluminum Corp., Hammond, Ind., on Thursday with a search warrant in hand, citing environmental issues.
Output at the specialty rolling mill, which produces coil and painted material for the construction industry, was suspended for much of the day.
The subject of the joint probe by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency appears to be tied to the use of "greasy scrap."
"It appears that the focus was on matters four to five years ago," Mark Schoenfield, Jupiter's general counsel, said. But Hammond's mayor told a local newspaper that the investigators were concerned that Jupiter might be "burning dirty aluminum. They have a clean-burning permit."....
