Fire at Republic’s Lorain plant idles billet caster

A fire has temporarily disabled the billet caster at Republic Engineered Products Inc.'s facility in Lorain, Ohio.
It's not yet clear when the caster will come back online or how much the damage will cost the Akron, Ohio-based special bar quality (SBQ) steelmaker, although the fire shouldn't significantly affect operations, a company spokesman said Monday.
