Kobe Steel opens titanium melt shop

Kobe Steel Ltd. has rounded out the upgrade and expansion of its various titanium facilities with a new melt shop that is due to reach full production in January.
The Japanese producer has inaugurated a 3.5-billion yen ($31.3 million) melting facility at its Takasago Works in western Japan that will carry out trial operations this month.
The melt shop uses the company's proprietary "Kobe Method" vacuum-arc remelt technology. It represents the fourth major capital investment made by Kobe Steel in the past year, which has included all of its titanium melting and mill product locations in Japan.....
