Expanding steel output driving India appetite for scrap imports

India could be looking to import between 6 million and 7 million tonnes of ferrous scrap if its steel production reaches the projected target of 100 million tonnes by 2020, according to a published report.
Annual demand for scrap could rise to as much as 20 million tonnes a year by 2020 if India's steel industry grows as expected, the Hindu Business Line quoted A.K. Dastidar, general manager of marketing at Metal Scrap Trading Corp. (MSTC), as saying at the 7th Asian Steel Conference in Mumbai. Domestic scrap processors would provide about two-thirds, or 13 million....
