It’s easy to underestimate size, hardships of US-Canada trade

With just 30 million people, Canada might not seem like the biggest and best country to trade with when it comes to moving metals and related products.

But Michael Flaherty, consul and senior trade commissioner with the Canadian Consulate General's office in Buffalo, N.Y., which runs programs to facilitate business opportunities between the United States and Canada, said that is so wrong. "How? We make things together," Flaherty said during a presentation at AMM's Moving Metals Conference in Atlanta.

One example, he said, is one he heard recently about a piece of metal that crossed the border between the two countries seven times before it became part of a finished product a piston in a van engine.....
