Senate Finance committee approves Padilla nomination

The Senate Finance Committee Thursday unanimously approved the nomination of Christopher Padilla as undersecretary of commerce for international trade.
His nomination to head the Commerce Department's International Trade Administration now goes to the full Senate, where he is expected to be confirmed.
Sen. Max Baucus (D., Mont.), committee chairman, said Padilla's nomination comes at a "pivotal time" for U.S. trade policy. Congress is considering bilateral free trade agreements with Peru, Panama, Colombia and South Korea, all supported by the Bush administration, while at the....
