Globe Metallurgical Inc. expects to make a decision on the restart of its 28,000-tonne-per-year silicon metal plant in Niagara Falls, N.Y., sometime early next year, according to a lawyer representing the company.

Jerry Kremer said the company remains "totally committed" to the restart but must secure low-cost power first.

The company has applied for a large amount of low-cost power through special programs operated by the New York Power Authority, Empire State Development Corp. and National Grid. A response to that application was expected this month but is now not likely until next year.....
