Rising costs drive steel plate makers to raise prices $30/T

Battling rising input and energy costs, U.S. producers of carbon steel plate plan to increase prices by $30 per ton effective with February shipments.
Nucor Corp., Charlotte, N.C., Ipsco Inc., Lisle, Ill., and Claymont Steel Holdings Inc., Claymont, Del., are telling customers of their intent to increase prices on carbon and high-strength, low-alloy plate products by $30 per ton effective with shipments beginning Feb. 3. Calls to ArcelorMittal USA Inc., Chicago, the other large U.S. producer of carbon steel plate products, were not returned Monday, so it was unclear whether it also intends to increase prices.
A $30-per-ton move would lift prices for cut-to-length and coiled plate to about $830 per ton ($41.50 per hundredweight), although market sources said many deals are being done at levels slightly below that price, with most deals being struck in a range of $810 to $820 per ton ($40.50 to $41 cwt).....
