Scrap dispute halts Vietnam steel production

A dispute between Vietnam's customs officials and another government agency over the quality of imported ferrous scrap has brought steel production in the Southeast Asian nation to a standstill, according to an Internet news report.

Customs officials are holding 91 containers of steel scrap imported by Anh Trang Co. Ltd. at docks in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). Customs officials say the imports could cause environmental pollution due to impurities....
