Rail cars fetch $174.31/T in military scrap sale

The U.S. Defense Department received $160,000 for 51 mostly mid-century rail cars in Texas, valuing them at an average $174.31 a long ton.
Rolling them on their own wheels to a demolition site via commercial rail lines might not be practical, bidders were cautioned, since many have obsolete "journal" bearings.....
