Oates named president, chief exec at Universal Stainless

Dennis M. Oates, formerly a top executive in the Specialty Alloys Division of Carpenter Technology Corp., has been named president and chief executive Officer of Universal Stainless & Alloy Products Inc., Bridgeville, Pa.

The appointment of Oates, who was named to Universal's board in October (AMM, Oct. 24), takes effect Jan. 7. The 55-year old Oates succeeds Clarence "Mac" McAninch as chief executive officer, although McAninch, who founded the company in 1994, will continue as chairman.

Oates assumed the president's title from Kenneth Matz, who has left Universal Stainless to pursue other interests, the company said.....
