Copper fabricators brace for slow start to ‘08

Copper fabricators are preparing for a slow start to 2008 as the residential construction slump shows no signs of turning around and customers continue to run minimum inventory levels.

Order books for January remain soft and fabricators are not expecting the year to start with a bang as customers remain cautious over the health of the wider economy, trade sources said.

"We've seen double-digit declines in building wire compared with the same period last year, and the situation in this sector will not change anytime soon," a source at one wire manufacturer said.....
