U.S. steel imports totaled 2.1 million tonnes in November, down 17.8 percent from October and off 33.3 percent from November 2006, according to preliminary data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The heaviest decline was seen in imports of blooms, billets and slabs, which totaled 321,427 tonnes in November, down 57.6 percent from 757,461 tonnes the previous month and a 43-percent plunge from 563,449 tonnes in November 2006.

Much of this decline could be credited to a single nation, Brazil, which sold just 14,664 tonnes of blooms, billets and slabs to U.S. buyers in November, down from 252,501 tonnes in October and from 84,963 tonnes in November 2006.....
