Rising exports, firm tags seen for scrap in ’08

Ferrous scrap exports are set to rise again in 2008 on the back of strong demand and a weakening U.S. dollar, executives at U.S. scrap companies said.

"So long as there are foreign economies growing, iron ore prices remain strong and the dollar remains weak, there will be demand to continue shipping scrap steel and certain nonferrous metals overseas," Carlos E. Aguero, president and chief executive officer of Cranford, N.J.-based Metalico Inc., said.....
