Chinese steel exports could sink 20M tonnes in ’08 exec

Chinese steel exports, including semi-finished steel, are expected to fall 20 million tonnes in 2008, continuing a downward trend seen through the fourth quarter, according to Wu Xichun, former chairman of the China Iron and Steel Association (Cisa).

Speaking at the 5th Chinese Iron & Steel Industry Chain Strategy and Investment Conference held by Beijing Custeel e-Commerce Co. Ltd. in Beijing, Wu said China is expected to export 62 million tonnes of steel products this year, up 44.2 percent from 43 million tonnes in 2006.
