Stainless scrap exports rise, but questions raised

Exports of stainless scrap rose by nearly 15 percent in October vs. the previous month, but some scrap traders are doubtful of the supposed strength of overseas demand for the shiny scrap.
Shipments to foreign specialty steelmakers and scrap importers rose to 79,013 tonnes from 68,845 tonnes in September, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Commerce Department.
If the Commerce data is correct, exports of 18-8 scrap totaled 715,646 tonnes for the first 10 months of the year, up more than 71 percent from 417,852 tonnes in January-to-October 2006 and nearly 60 percent ahead of the 449,304-tonne total logged during the same 10-month span in 2005.....
