O’Neal targets specialty alloys, merges centers

Highlighting the drive toward service center consolidation, O'Neal Steel Inc., Birmingham, Ala., has merged two Ohio service centers it acquired in 2006, with the combined operation now known as United Performance Metals.
The merger combines the operations of Ferguson Metals, Hamilton, Ohio, and AIM International, Miamiville, Ohio, which consolidated into Ferguson's headquarters site effective Jan. 1.
"The strong synergies that exist between the two organizations coupled with the market potential created by going to market as a single, united entity made the decision to merge an easy one," Wayne Ferguson, Ferguson Metals' founder and president, said.
The new United Performance Metals will offer customers a greater variety of flat-rolled and specialty metal products, with a focus on specialty grades of stainless, nickel alloy and cobalt alloys. United Performance's 108,000-square-foot facility is equipped to process coil, sheet and plate products with slitting, edging, shearing, leveling and sawing capabilities.....
